Across the Bay 10K – Conquering your fears
My friend and I ran this bridge last weekend…
Here’s the thing: I am not a fan of running. It’s all in my head that I feel like I can’t do it. I get so afraid of failure.
So my friend asked me to do it with her and I said NOPE. And then she asked 10 more times and I finally said yes…. she pushed me to be a better person, to face my fears.
When we got up to the start line, she was there for me 100%, kept asking if I was ok and saying I could do it.. and then she said “just one step at a time, Farin”
I thought of my friend for at least half of the race (we didn’t run together and she is actually way faster!!)…. but I was so greatful for the support and her pushing me to be better.
I ran the whole thing… didn’t stop once and it felt AMAZING!! Even more amazing was my friend waited for me and told me she was proud of me.
And it wasn’t but just 10 months ago that I said those EXACT words to my friend when she completed her FIRST workout program with me. She took one step at time, did something she didn’t think she could do and she did it.
So my point is that sometimes we need to push each other to do things…. and it isn’t always easy but just one step at a time is all it takes.
For so long I would convince myself that I couldn’t go for long runs, that I couldn’t finish it… and here I am — I FINISHED IT!
You HAVE to do the things you think you can’t in order to prove to yourself that you ABSOLUTELY CAN!
